Malaysia's Foremost Furniture Hub
Muar is the foremost furniture hub in the country with some 800 factories that account for some 55-60% of Malaysia’s furniture export. Muar furniture export manufacturers, monthly export of about 7,000—8,000 containers of furniture products to overseas markets around the world, earning considerable foreign exchange for the country.
In 2019 Malaysia total furniture export stood at RM 11 billion. Muar Furniture Association (MFA) alone, its share was approximately RM6 billion.
Since 1982, Muar Furniture Association ( MFA ) which accommodates all furniture and furniture parts manufacturers in Muar, has been the main driving force to make Malaysia one of the most outstanding furniture manufacturing nations in the world.
In an effort to give its members international exposure and recognition, MFA organized regular exhibitions, namely, “1990 Furniture Exposition”, “Johor Furniture Exposition 1992”, and “Muar Furniture Overseas Exposition 1994”, 1999 – 2004 MFA organized the Malaysian Furniture Exports Exhibition (MAFEX), 2005- 2011 MFA hosts Malaysia Export Furnition Exhibition (EFE), 2012-MFA collaborates with UBM to establish strategic alliance to jointly promote the Malaysia International Furniture Fair (MIFF), to ensure that members have a better sales platform, promote international business. Muar Furniture Association will continue to work with other internationally renowned exhibition company, to seek opportunities for cooperation.
The Fast growing furniture industry in Muar saw many cottageindustries and small factories shifting their operations to industrial estates in Pagoh, Bukit Pasir, Bukit Bakri, Parit Jamil, Tanjong Agas and Gresik, to establish furniture manufacturing clusters with essential supporting industries. The Abundance of sub-contractors also ensured Muar’s global competitiveness in price and quantity. Muar has become an internationally renowned Malaysian Furniture City.
he Muar furniture industry produces a wide range of high quality furniture - Bedroom set, Dining Set, Living Room set, rattan set, office furniture, outdoor furniture, sofa set, Children set etc. In addition to small and medium sized factories, many companies have expanded into large groups. Currently, there are twelve furniture companies listed on Bursa Malaysia.
